The caring, friendly environment at St John's Transition class makes the move into school life an enjoyable experience for your child. We develop the key learning areas, provide a firm foundation for learning and encourage girls and boys to develop as confident, caring and articulate young people. The St John's Junior School Transition class is for children three and four year-olds who will be prepared for the step up into Kindergarten. The day is from 8.30am until 3.30pm. After school care is available until 5.30pm at an extra cost. It is a registered child care facility and therefore parents and guardians may apply for the Australian Government Child Care Benefit.
Transition runs Monday to Thursday, the four day program for four year-old children integrates specialist classes which may include swimming, dance, horse riding, music and a gross motor program. The two day program for three year-olds is held on Wednesday and Thursday.
Our transition students are full members of the NEGS educational community, with access to computers, religious education, chapel, sporting and musical events. Lunch, morning tea and specialist classes are all included in the fees.
Regular communication with parents is integral to our family-centered approach. We provide full reporting in Terms 2 and 4. The philosophy of St John's Transition is for children to be children, and for us to develop your child's strengths at the optimal time.
Program We take a holistic approach to learning, acknowledging and building on your child's existing knowledge and skills. In a warm classroom environment, and with respect for each student's individual gifts, we extend and challenge all in the excitement of learning. Play and exploration are children's main means of learning about their world. In Transition we achieve this through interactive learning experiences that develop skills such as predicting, investigating and questioning. Children explore and consolidate their interests with individual and group learning. The learning environment is designed to encourage autonomy. Transition students care for their own and their peers' belongings and learn to complete a task with minimal adult intervention. We believe our Transition students become confident, caring, independent learners willing to try anything. Preliteracy Progam The development of literary skills and a love of reading is a fundamental priority at St John's Transition. We immerse out children in the written and spoken word, providing a rich environment for learning. This is important preparation for Kindergarten - and for life. |
