Music @ NEGS – Week 6

Mrs Sally Spillanne

Mrs Sally Spillanne

Our first Twilight Concert for the year will be held on Tuesday April 10th. This concert will be held in the Jan Milburn room and will be showcasing some of the many talented musical students from both Junior and Senior School, a lovely night of entertainment so put this date in your diary so you can make it to this evening. A light supper will be served at the conclusion of the concert.

Our Year 9/10 Music class are off to NECOM this Friday to participate in a wonderful workshop with students from around the region. Amongst other things they will be participating in African Drumming and Dance, learning about Gypsy Arabic music and working with the Hawaiian Ukelele Choir.

Students were excited to see two more pipe marimbas arrive in the band room. Now we have to paint them so they look fabulous. If anyone enjoys painting please contact either Lisa Nolan or myself. We are going to paint the marimbas at school so they reflect some of the wonderful characteristics of NEGS. We want to paint horses on one marimba, playing sport at NEGS, musical notes on a marimba and the list goes on. Please contact us if you would like to help out.

Mr Finco was singing the praises of the girls who are in the NEGS band. The band continues to grow with students who are already competent on their instruments and enjoy playing music together. Mr Finco welcomes all students so if your daughter plays an instrument encourage her to join this group.

With our Year 3-6 students away at camp K/1/2 were impressing Mr Oxley and I with their focus in music classes. They are singing rounds so well and blending beautifully. They are learning to play the marimbas and learning to listen to one another as they play their instruments together.

It has been wonderful to see students coming in and requesting instrumental lessons. Mrs Lisa Nolan does an excellent job finding students times to have their lessons and great teachers to teach them their instrument of choice. Please contact us in the Music Block if you would like your child to learn an instrument.
