Mrs Sally Spillane

What a wonderful start we have had in music this year. We have choirs, vocal ensembles, bands, jazz ensembles and other music groups coming together and learning some fabulous repertoire, getting ready for performances. Our fabulous Year 7/8 choir gave their first performance this year singing ‘Here Comes The Sun’ for  Mr Downs special ceremony, a performance enjoyed by the whole school.
We have our first Twilight concert coming up on Tuesday evening April 4th, beginning at 6pm to be held in the assembly hall. Music teachers will invite students to perform at this concert so keep this date free to come and see some of the wonderful musical talent in our school. Students will need to be at the hall by 5.30pm to tune their instruments before the concert.

Our groups are  busy learning their pieces for the Armidale Eisteddfod which will be held next term. It is important that we get regular attendance at our groups so please encourage your daughter to be well organised and make all their practises as the more practise we have the better the sound we produce.

It is so wonderful to see how many students are taking up instruments this year. So far we have had 10 more students begin piano, 3 more students begin guitar, 2 more students learning the drums, 1 new student learning the violin, as well as our students from Year 7 and 8 taking up the saxophone, clarinet, trombone, trumpet, flute, french horn through our band program. If you would like to make inquiries about your daughter taking up an instrument please contact Lisa Nolan at music.admin@negs.nsw.edu.au . If your daughter would like to learn an instrument Lisa will happily organise private music lessons.

Finally a big thank you to Sally Olsen who donated a drum kit to the music dept and Trudy Hancock who donated a keyboard to the music dept. We truly appreciate your generosity in supporting music at NEGS. If you know anyone who has an instrument that is not been used please let us know as we can always use instruments in music.

Yours in music, Sally Spillane
