HEAD OF NEGS JUNIOR SCHOOL

Role Description

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:     The Head of NEGS Junior School is accountable and is responsible to the Principal.
ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The role of the Head of NEGS Junior School is to lead and manage the NEGS Junior School and to inform the Principal of all matters pertaining to that portfolio.

 

OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE:

The Head of Junior School is responsible for:

The educational and administrative management of Junior School in association with the Principal.

The provision of effective care and education of the students through facilitation of their academic, social, spiritual and personal development within the resource and funding constraints of the School.

The implementation of strategies which enhance team building, delegation and development of personnel.

Liaising with personnel responsible for curriculum planning, program implementation and evaluation strategies.

Being an active participant in the implementation of the School’s Strategic Plan and the developmental process of the School’s future.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Ensures the effective administration of NEGS Junior School by:
Establishing and maintaining effective communication with all members of the Junior School family and the wider community.
Managing daily routines including the monitoring of all essential documentation relevant to the role.
Organising significant promotional events which impact on Junior School and its community.
Ensuring that attendance records are correctly kept and maintained.
Working with the Business Manager in the overall maintenance of the School.
Organising and coordinating assemblies, emergency evacuations and lock-downs as circumstances dictate.
Coordinating the preparation of student portfolios.
Planning and co-ordinating the annual Celebration of Learning function at the end of each academic year.

Maintains and develops positive human relations by:

  • Assisting in the selection of new staff for Junior School in consultation with the Principal.
  • Developing and coordinating a relevant induction program for new staff.
  • Insisting on and facilitating that staff, student and parent relationships are underpinned by the values of honesty, justice and dignity of the individual.
  • Managing the individual professional development programs for the staff of Junior School.
  • Being involved in and supportive of the programs which promote student leadership.
  • Assisting with the preparation, documentation and review of role descriptions.
  • Implementing and managing the discipline policy as it applies to the student population.
  • Assisting the Principal by encouraging positive staff morale and monitoring staff welfare.
  • Providing support and loyalty to the Principal.

 

3.      Promotes NEGS Junior School as a centre of quality teaching and learning by:

  • Modelling good classroom teaching practices and providing collegiate support for teachers.
  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of contemporary pedagogy and a commitment to the integration of ICT into classroom practice.
  • Being aware of the requirements of the Board of Studies in regard to the education of students in Stages 1-3 and the implementation of the National Curriculum.
  • Challenging and assisting teachers to be proficient and competent classroom practitioners.
  • Encouraging the maintenance of a school environment which is conducive to optimum teaching and learning.
  • Maintaining a contemporary awareness and providing strategic advice to the Principal regarding Federal and State Government initiatives of relevance to St John’s.
  • Managing the analysis of external NAPLAN results and implementing plans to improve individual and school-wide student performance.
  • Ensuring that Registration issues for BOSTES are fully compliant.

 

4.       Contributes to the development of NEGS as vibrant communities by:

  • Supporting and contributing to the NEGS culture and ethos through the promotion of Christian values.
  • Facilitating and attending NEGS family organised events.
  • Promoting a whole school ethos through marketing opportunities.
  •  Taking a proactive role in the implementation of an effective Pastoral Care policy;
  • Seeking new opportunities in enhancing the Junior School co-curricular program.
  • Supporting the involvement of boys and girls in healthy lifestyle programs including weekend sport commitments.
