Enrolling is Easy

Welcome to Enrolments and thank you for your interest in NEGS.

We understand that choosing the right school for your child in school is a big decision.  That’s why at NEGS we take you a step at a time so you can be confident you are making the right choice as a parent.

NEGS provides an educational experience for both boys and girls in Junior School and a tailored learning environment for young women in Senior School, with boarding houses to facilitate the educational needs of students located outside of Armidale.

At NEGS we offer a personalised academic program which encourages students to identify and develop their talents and express those talents with confidence. The intimate classes are taught by well-qualified teachers with a genuine passion for learning.

Once you have registered with NEGS we will be sending you information on all of our enrolment events including Open Mornings, Early Year Explorer Days, Step Up Days, Girls Night In and more.

Our Enrolment Process

Step 1 – Register your interest

Register your interest by completing the short form below (end of this page) and we’ll be in touch to commence the enrolment process. 

Already decided NEGS is your school of choice?  If so, you can get going on the full enrolment application here – Enrolment Form.

Please note that submission of either of these forms, at this stage does not guarantee entry of your child into the School. However, it does start the process towards your child’s possibility in joining us at NEGS.

Step 2 – Book a Tour

We’d love to show you our 50 hectare campus with a mix of old and new heritage listed buildings, state of the art Science laboratories, a multi-purpose centre and a national standard Equestrian Centre.

You can book your tour directly or get in touch and we’ll arrange your tour time and date for you.  

You and your family will be guided around the grounds and also get a chance to meet our incredible teachers.

Step 3 – Invitation for Interview

Parents/guardians and the prospective student will be invited to attend NEGS for an interview.

As part of the interview process, school reports, test results, and samples of schoolwork will all be taken into account.

Please note that consent, where applicable, will be requested to contact the student’s previous school for a verbal reference.

Our School Principal holds to ultimate decision to offer a place at NEGS.

Step 4 – Enrolment Application

Now it’s time to complete enrolment, scholarship and bursary applications so that an Offer of Enrolment to attend the School can be wholly  considered.

Step 5 – Enrolment Offer and Acceptance

Should an offer be made you will receive the Contract of Enrolment and associated documents.

To accept this offer and confirm a place for your child, both parents/guardians are required to sign the Contract and return it to the Enrolment Office along with the associated documents noted in the Contract of Enrolment and a non-refundable Acceptance Fee of $865 (including GST).

Scholarships & Bursaries

NEGS offers a number of scholarships each year to girls entering Years 7 to 11.  These scholarships are offered to girls who show particular talent and passion across a number of fields, from the sporting or equestrian arenas, to the music room, at the design and visual arts desk, and in academia. This is a chance to welcome bright minds and keen sportswomen who will flourish at NEGS and relish in the opportunities our school provides.

Applications for all Scholarships & Bursaries are accepted year-round, however, we encourage families to apply by March as we commence round one offers by the end of March. Students are eligible to apply for more than one scholarship. However, if successful, only one scholarship offer will be made.  Applicants are entitled to hold both a scholarship and a bursary (if successful).

Scholarships and Bursaries are reviewed on an annual basis and it is the School’s expectation that recipients maintain all-round commitment to all areas of their schooling.  They are intended for those students who are committed to continuing their education through to the completion of Year 12 at NEGS.  Bursaries are means-tested, and families are required to submit their financial statements each year by the end of October.

The Scholarships entitle the recipients to part remission of tuition fees to the end of Year 12. Bursaries entitle the recipients to part remission of boarding fees to the end of Year 12. All other expenses must be met at the full rate.

ACER Scholarship Testing

The ACER Scholarship Tests are used across Australia to identify scholarship candidates by reliably differentiating among academically able students.

ACER Scholarship Tests are a series of academic ability tests used to select students for the award of a scholarship.

NEGS is a registered and participating school in the ACER Scholarship Testing Program and encourages families considering NEGS to explore this opportunity.

Considering Scholarship Options?

Academic Scholarships are offered to students entering Years 7 to 11 who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of examination success and demonstrated academic achievement and entitle the recipients to part remission of tuition fees to the end of Year 12. All other expenses must be met at the full rate.

For 2025 Academic Scholarships testing will occur in February 2024. Please register your interest and further information will be sent.

The scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis and it is the School’s expectation that recipients of Academic Scholarships maintain a high academic standard throughout their schooling and represent the School as and when requested.

These scholarships aim to provide financial support to students excelling in their chosen sport, acknowledging the significant cost to families associated with travel and supplies for students competing at representative levels.

Sporting Excellence Scholarships are part remission of fees, and are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

PLACEMENT IN THE PROGRAM IS DEPENDENT ON:

  • An ability, interest and potential in the nominated sport, already achieving representative levels.
  • A recognisable commitment to school studies and academic performance.
  • An excellent record of school conduct and attendance.

The scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis and it is the school’s expectation that recipients of Sporting Excellence Scholarships maintain continued development and improvement in the nominated sport, commitment to academic performance, represent the school as and when requested and acceptable levels of attendance and adherence to the schools’ code of conduct.

Jean Newall All-Rounder Scholarships are offered to students who demonstrate high levels of academic achievement, evidence of leadership or community service, significant co-curricular participation and will contribute to the life of the School. The Scholarships entitle the recipients to part remission of tuition fees to the end of Year 12. All other expenses must be met at the full rate.

The School reserves the right to withdraw a scholarship from any scholarship holder.

All applicants for Jean Newall All-Rounder Scholarships are also required to:

  • Submit a portfolio outlining the Applicant’s achievements in the last two years in her school and in the community. The portfolio should include all evidence of a developing or sustained commitment to community service initiatives or organisations in their school, local or global community and evidence of other achievements during the last two years.

The scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis and it is the school’s expectation that recipients of Jean Newall All Rounder Scholarship maintain commitment to academic performance, represent the school as and when requested, to be involved in leadership and service within the school community, and acceptable levels of attendance and adherence to the schools’ code of conduct.

Applications are now open for day student scholarships at NEGS, in honour of the school’s founder, Miss Florence Green.

Florence Green, established NEGS in 1895 through tenacity and dedication to education.

On 7 February 1895, Miss Florence Green opened NEGS’ doors to just six-day students. In the 128 years since, her values of integrity, responsibility and excellence continue to guide every new student to walk through the School’s gates. NEGS’ focus is to empower students to lead meaningful lives, to be resilient and unafraid of risk, just as Florence Green was unafraid in her decision to move to Armidale and establish the school.

How to apply

The scholarships are open to new students currently in Years 5 to 11, and will be awarded based on:

  • Strong academic merit. Students will have strong school reports and a demonstrated record of sound academic progress, effort and achievement.
  • Demonstrated ability in areas of service, sport, leadership and other co-curricular activities.

The scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis and it is the school’s expectation that recipients of the Florence Green All Rounder Scholarship maintain commitment to academic performance, represent the school as and when requested, to be involved in leadership and service within the school community, and acceptable levels of attendance and adherence to the schools’ code of conduct.

These scholarships are offered to students entering Years 9 – 11 who demonstrate a particular flair in their artistic and/or design ability. Students applying for this scholarship will demonstrate a creative ability as well as the potential to achieve excellence scholastically in areas of Art and Design. It is assumed that any applicant will be proactive in developing their practical skills and understanding of Art and/or Design history/theory.

All applicants for Visual Art and Design Scholarships are required to:

  1. Sit the Academic Scholarship Test;
  2. Provide a portfolio with examples of the applicant’s own drawings, designs and/or artworks. Each folder and artwork is to be clearly labelled.
  3. Along with a portfolio, each applicant is to submit a written investigation to demonstrate their understanding of Art History and/or the Design World. Students can complete this section of the criteria by submitting ONE of the following options:
    (a) Submit a report on an artist, designer or architect of their choosing outlining the significance of that practitioner’s work, their influences/inspiration, materials, processes and techniques. (max. 1200 words)
    OR
    (b) Respond to the question below:
    Artworks are not just created for their visual appeal. They often communicate powerful ideas that existed in the world in which they were created.
    Discuss this statement with reference to TWO or THREE specific artists, craftspeople, designers and/or architects you have studied. Be sure to include a specific example (artwork or designed object/concept) in each paragraph to back up your main argument. (max. 1200 words).

The scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis and it is the school’s expectation that recipients of the Visual Arts and Design Scholarship maintain commitment to academic performance, represent the school as and when requested, to be involved in leadership and service within the school community, and acceptable levels of attendance and adherence to the schools’ code of conduct.

Music Scholarships are offered for students entering Years 7 to 11, who demonstrate outstanding music achievement or potential.

Music scholarships are awarded primarily on the quality of audition, however, examination success and demonstrated academic achievement will also be taken into consideration. The audition process will include a performance of one piece, an interview, sight reading/singing and some questions on music literacy (based on the level of AMEB grade completion).

Music scholarships are reviewed annually and if these criteria are met, will apply for the duration of studies at NEGS, unless otherwise specified. As a condition of the scholarship the student will continue lessons in their chosen field (voice or instrumental) and perform regularly at school music events. The cost for instrumental tuition is met entirely by parents.

Scholarship recipients are expected to be fully involved in the music life of the school including membership of relevant ensembles. The successful applicant will be expected to study music as a subject through to the Higher School Certificate.

Criteria:

Students are expected to have achieved the following standard for their instrument:

  • Grade 2 AMEB standard or equivalent for Voice
  • Grade 3 AMEB standard or equivalent for Brass and Woodwind
  • Grade 4 AMEB standard or equivalent for Piano and Strings

Each year, our generous Queensland Old Girls’ Branch donate funds towards a scholarship in support of a student who would benefit from a NEGS education but requires financial support to do so.

Recipients of this scholarship must be boarders with a demonstrated financial need, and descendants of NEGS Old Girls are encouraged to apply.

The scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis and it is the school’s expectation that recipients of the Queensland Old Girls’ Scholarships maintain commitment to academic performance, represent the school as and when requested, to be involved in leadership and service within the school community, and acceptable levels of attendance and adherence to the schools’ code of conduct.

Each year, our generous Queensland Old Girls’ Branch donate funds towards a scholarship in support of a student who would benefit from a NEGS education but requires financial support to do so.

Recipients of this scholarship must be boarders with a demonstrated financial need, and a relative of a NEGS Old Girl.

The scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis and it is the school’s expectation that recipients of the Armidale Old Girls’ Scholarships maintain commitment to academic performance, represent the school as and when requested, to be involved in leadership and service within the school community, and acceptable levels of attendance and adherence to the schools’ code of conduct.

Each year, our generous Sydney Old Girls’ Branch donate funds towards a scholarship in support of a student who would benefit from a NEGS education but requires financial support to do so. Recipients of this scholarship must be boarders with a demonstrated financial need, and descendants of NEGS Old Girls are encouraged to apply.

The Lisa Cameron Bursary was established in memory of Lisa Elaine Cameron, a NEGS Old Girl who attended NEGS from 1941-1943.

The bursary is awarded to families in need of financial assistance who will benefit from a NEGS education and make the most of the opportunities the school provides.

All applicants for this bursary are required to:

  1. Complete and submit an Application for Enrolment Form (unless this has been completed previously) and provide all documentation referred to in that form;
  2. Complete and submit the Bursary Application Form and provide all documentation referred to in that form;
  3. Attend an interview with the Principal.

The School reserves the right to withdraw a bursary from any bursary holder. It is the school’s expectation that recipients of the Lisa Cameron Bursary maintain commitment to academic performance, represent the school as and when requested, to be involved in leadership and service within the school community, and acceptable levels of attendance and adherence to the schools’ code of conduct.

This bursary is offered to students who will contribute to the life of the school.

Boarding Bursaries are offered to boarding students who have a strong desire to attend NEGS, demonstrate significant potential to contribute to the boarding and general life of NEGS and demonstrate genuine financial need. The Bursary entitle the recipients to part remission of boarding fees to the end of Year 12. All other expenses must be met at the full rate. Bursaries are reviewed annually.

All applicants for Boarding Bursary are required to:

  1. Submit financial statements (where applicable) and tax returns for the last financial year.

The bursaries are reviewed on an annual basis and it is the School’s expectation that recipients of a Boarding Bursary maintain all round commitment to all areas of their schooling, including contributing to the boarding life of the School and represent the School as and when requested.

The Bush Children’s Education Foundation of NSW (BCEF) provides assistance to families who live in remote rural locations with restricted financial resources so that their children can attend a rural boarding school for their secondary schooling.

The Secondary Rural Boarding Bursary is designed to bridge the gap between the cost of rural boarding and funding received through NSW and Commonwealth Government allowances. It is awarded on the basis of family income and geographical isolation from an appropriate school along with any other exceptional circumstances that meet our criteria as outlined in the application form.

The Rural Boarding Bursary is awarded for one year and is currently available to a maximum of $2,500 depending on need. It includes boarding fee support and may include additional payments for other appropriate school costs. Payment is made in one instalment directly to the school.

Does your family qualify for the Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme?

If your child can’t go to their local government school, you could get help for the extra costs associated with them boarding away from home.

The Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme is a group of payments for parents and careers whose children can’t go to their local government school because they:

  • Are geographically isolated
  • Have no reasonable access to their local government school, or
  • Meet a continuity condition.

Your child also needs to meet living, age and study requirements.

In 2021 the payments available are:

Boarding allowance (up to $11,011 per year)

  • Basic boarding allowance – $8,557 per year
  • Supplement boarding allowance – up to $2,425 per year (based on parents’ income)

Distance education allowance ($4,278 per year)

These payments are made by the Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme.

You are geographically isolated if:

  • Your family home is 56 km or more from the nearest suitable government school, OR
  • Your family home is 16 km or more from the nearest suitable government school and at least 4.5 km away from the nearest transport to school, OR
  • Your family home is 16 km or more from the nearest suitable government school and your child has no transport to get there, OR
  • Your child can’t get to the nearest suitable government school for at least 20 school days a year due to circumstances beyond your control.

NEGS was founded as an independent Anglican School in 1895, by Florence Emily Green, a deeply religious educator from Oamaru, New Zealand.The aim of the school was to provide an all-round education for girls, with a strong emphasis on Christian values, in order to prepare students for the challenges of the new century.

The Florence Green Memorial Chapel was opened and consecrated by the Rt Rev John Moyes, Bishop of Armidale, on 29 September 1936, St. Michael and All Angels Day.

About the Scholarship

The Anglican Clergy Scholarship is open to Anglican Clergy and employees of Anglican diocese across Australia. In order for an application to be considered, a letter of introduction from a diocesan Bishop is required.

The scholarship will provide an annual discount to tuition for years K to 12 based on the NEGS 2023 fee schedule (the amount may be indexed to CPI from time to time), however all other charges including daily meals, activity fees, bus fees, textbook hire, co-curricular activities, sporting activities, sporting registrations, school camps, excursions, uniforms and other relevant fees will be invoiced separately and at the full rate indicated on the Fee Schedule.

2025 SECONDARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN.

Applications and all supporting documents must be received by the close of business Friday 31st May 2024.

Applicants are required to complete all sections of the student application and personal statement.

Please note that documents received after Friday the 31st of May 2024 will not be accepted and incomplete applications will not be considered for ranking.

A requirement of the application process is that shortlisted applicants attend an interview with their parent or guardian. This interview is to establish whether or not you meet the requirements set out in the program guidelines.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR A SECONDARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP?

To be eligible for an IYLP scholarship the applicant must be a young Indigenous Australian who has the motivation and high potential to complete Year 12, and be committed to succeeding. Scholarships are being offered for up to one year and student progress will be reviewed periodically.

IYLP scholarship applicants must also be:

• willing to attend an approved IYLP Education Partner School/College

• eligible for Abstudy

• able to meet the requirements set out in the program guidelines in relation to receipt of other Commonwealth scholarships

Fee Structure

“An Affordable Way to Invest in Your Child’s Future”

Payment Plans

NEGS has partnered with Edstart to make it easy for you to manage school fee payments. With Edstart Pay+, you can spread your fees evenly across the school year in weekly, fortnightly or monthly instalments.

Edstart will pay your invoice to the school each term and debit your bank account during the year based on your preferred frequency. You can use Edstart to cover tuition fees, boarding costs and additional charges such as uniforms, extra-curricular activities, camps and trips. For more information, visit edstart.com.au/negs.

There are no transaction fees or interest charges with using Edstart Pay+ for your NEGS fees. Create your payment plan using the simple fee calculator below. Once you’ve completed the application process, Edstart will contact you to finalise the set-up of your account.

Sibling Discount

NEGS offers sibling discounts to families with more than one child attending the School. Where a family has a child who is in receipt of a scholarship, sibling discounts may not apply. Sibling discounts are applied to tuition fees only and at the rate of 20% reduced tuition fee for the second child and 30% reduced tuition fee for the third and subsequent child.

Family Loyalty Discount

NEGS is committed to supporting our long-term families.  Discounts on Senior School fees are offered to Junior School students when they move to Senior School when they have been continually enrolled at NEGS:

From Year 3 – 25%

From Year 4 – 20%

From Year 5 – 15%

From Year 6 – 10%

The Family Loyalty Discount applies to fees from Years 7-12 and cannot be used with other discounts.

Fees Paid In Advance

The School may offer discounts on fees where fees are paid in advance for the following school year. Payment of fees in advance is due in November each year. Conditions apply, and details regarding fees in advance are sent to parents in October each year.

Withdrawal of a Student

Notice of withdrawal of a student must be given in writing to the Principal at least one term in advance, otherwise, a term’s tuition and boarding fees (if applicable) will be charged.

Terms of Payment

Tuition and boarding fees are invoiced in four instalments each year (three instalments for parents of Year 12 students). Please refer to the Invoice / Statement for the due date.

Parents are asked to immediately let the Business Manager know of any change in circumstances which may affect their capacity to pay the fees so that special arrangements can be made.

Payment Options

Fee payment options include BPAY, direct debit, credit card, cheque and cash. Payment plans are also available (conditions apply – see below for more information).
