Round Square Program

Round Square Program

As Round Square aims to prepare young people for life through service, so too does NEGS ask our students to develop a giving and service culture in all that they do. We challenge our students through academic, co-curricular and sporting endeavours, as well as through camps and excursions taking them out of their comfort zone and stepping up to tackle some difficult real world issues. Through this empowerment we hope to help develop a generation of young people who have the self-belief in their own abilities to respond to the challenges of today and the future.

The ideals that the Round Square programme at NEGS promotes are:

International Friendship,
Democracy in action,
Environmental Stewardship,
Adventure opportunities for all students,
Leadership experiences,
Service to the school community, local community and the global community.

There are many ways in which these ideals are embedded in the life of the school and students participate without being fully aware that they are fulfilling these ideals. They are part of the philosophy of the school and form a valuable part of the nature of the community here at NEGS.

As well, there are two major Round Square activities that are predominantly RS Programs – Conferences and Exchanges.

Conferences are held every year and they are a special gathering of students who participate in a very lively program, hear world class speakers, discuss current issues and learn how teenagers can make a difference, undertake adventurous activities, perform community service and socially mix with a wide range of students.

Round Square International Service trips are a chance for senior girls to give back to communities around the world, make lifelong global friends and add a significant achievement to their resumes in preparation for university and the world beyond school. They are held in December and July each year.

RS Student Exchange Program is another lively way of participating in the Round Square community. Year 8 students can request an exchange place with any school in the Australasian and East Asian Region – usually for 2 weeks.

Year 10 students can request an exchange place with any Round Square school in the world for approximately a term (10 weeks). Girls interested in this program should contact Mrs Stephanie Thomas on
